San Diego

The sixth on size a city of the USA is the Californian San Diego (San Diego) - the major base of navy fleet of the USA.

The city was stretched in the southwest of California. Its western areas lay at coast of Pacific ocean, and southern - border on Mexico. From the middle of 1990 of San Diego the grandiose increase in population worries. In 1940 this city occupied 43 place among cities of the USA on number of inhabitants, and in 1990 - already the sixth. Among other cities of California and all Pacific coast is larger than San Diego only Los-Anzheles.

In a city the institute of oceanography known in the USA "Scripps Institution of Oceanography", and also universities "The University of California at San Diego", "National University" and the international university "United States International University" is located. The city symphonic orchestra (The San Diego Symphony Orchestra) acts in a city concert hall "Symphony Hall". The house of a city opera "the San Diego Opera" is "The Civic Theatre", located in the central part of a city, and in city park "Balboa Park" there is other largest theatre of San Diego - "Old Globe Theatre". Both theatrical companies of a city with success go on tour on the Broadway scene. The theatre "The Old Globe" is a part of the theatrical centre "Simon Edison Center for the Performing Arts" which annually, every summer, represents on the scene of statement of the greatest English playwright William Shakespeare.

Balboa Park

In territory of city park "Balboa Park" there is a set of museums, botanical gardens and the well-known zoo of San Diego "San Diego Zoo". In a zoo are presented about 4 thousand various kinds of animals. 40 hectares of its area occupy gardens of tropical colours and plants. The zoo offers 8-killometrovoe travel "safari" which is a part "Wild park Eskondido" (San Diego Wild Animal Park in Escondido).

The port of San Diego in gulf San Diego Bay plays a huge role not only in city economy, but also all staff. The port serves the ships of military fleet of the USA which are based in "San Diego Naval Base". At present person lives in mother country San Diego of 2,5 million.
