Texas |
Texas — staff in the south of the USA. The staff name occurs from the Spanish word «tejas» which in turn was a variant of an American Indian word — «táysha ʔ» (in language of tribes Каддо) — meaning "friend", "ally" (it the first Spanish researchers of territory began to name its American Indian tribes).
Texas borders on states of New Mexico (in the west), Oklahoma (in the north), Louisiana and Arkansas (in the east). The Southwest border of Texas passes on the river Rio Grande which divides the USA and Mexico. In the southeast Texas it is washed by Gulf of Mexico.
In 1519 along the Texas coast there has passed Spanish seafarer Pineda. Кабеза де Вака and Коронадо have visited internal areas in 1541. The first settlement has been based by Spaniards in area Isleta near El Paso in 1682. Americans have appeared here in the beginning of 19 centuries.
Mexico which structure included Texas, has achieved independence of Spain in 1821. The general the Santa Ana who has become in the head of the government of Mexico, has demanded from Texans to release slaves or to be cleaned from its territory. Texans have lifted revolt. In 1836 armies of Santa Ana have destroyed all to one defenders of mission of Alamo.
Across all Texas the call for victims (Remember the Alamo) has been stopped to revenge. Civil guardsmen led by Sam Hjustonom have crushed Mexicans in battle at Sant-Hasinto and have proclaimed independence of Texas. To 1845 Texas has been accepted in structure of the USA as staff.
