Комаягуа, the capital of Honduras with 1537 for 1880, is located in 90 km to the northwest from Tegucigalpa, on the main road to San Pedro Sula. The city, on a plan of its founder - Don Франсиско де Монтехо, should settle down on equal removal from both oceans. Strategic site Комаягуа has allowed it to become quickly the important trading and political centre of the country. The city lays at height of 600 metres in the centre of the extensive and fertile valley Комаягуа surrounded with high mountains, paternal a local climate, warm enough in the afternoon.
Nowadays this old city constructed according to the Spanish traditions, keeps till now set of certificates of the colonial past. Here the first church in a city - La-Mersed during the period between 1550 and 1551 Also here much and other fine old constructions, first of all church and a female monastery of San Francisco (1584), churches La-Karidad (1590-1730), San Sebastian and others, residence of a bishop (1735) and the Colonial museum located under its arches, an anthropology and history Museum (the most extensive collection of subjects and prophetic American Indian culture Ленка in the world) in a building of old president residence of the country, an old building of the National congress of Honduras, traditional Park-sentral (possibly most beautiful park in the country), and also two houses-museums - José Trinidada Kabanasa and Франсиско Морасана has been constructed.
The first university in Central America also has been based in Комаягуа in 1632, in area Kasa-Kural (now in it the Colonial museum having an extensive collection of church art takes places, covering four century of the colonial period).
Cathedral Комаягуа (greatest of the temple complexes constructed in the country during the colonial period 1685-1711 гг), located in the city centre, contains 4 old altars (from initial 16), set of subjects of olden time, and also is famous for the tower chiming clock which is one of the oldest hours in the world.
The rich cultural and historical heritage of a city has drawn to itself attention of the Spanish Agency of Cooperation (SCA) which in cooperation with municipality Komajagua and Gondurassky institute of anthropology and history have begun the ambitious project of restoration of a city. As a result historical centre Komajagua has been properly restored, and its unique charm involves here more and more tourists. In the considerable image it is promoted also by grandiose easter holidays which here mark on envy to all country.
