Lake Tagus |
Lake Tagus (from English "Lake Tahoe") — the fresh-water reservoir located around a mountain ridge Sierra-Nevada, on border of states Nevada and California.
Lake Tagus - very beautiful high-mountainous lake with crystal-clear water. The maximum depth of lake makes half-kilometre, in this plan of Tagus concedes only to lake Krejter, the State of Oregon. Width of lake — 19 km, length 35км, extent of a coastal line of 116 km. The lake total area is equaled 191кв.км. Tagus it is located in 25 miles jugo-to the west the cities of Rino on border of states Nevada and California. Excellent highways allow to reach quickly it in any weather.
The lake Tagus does not freeze all year long. Perfectly well developed tourist and resort infrastructure allows to accept at any time year a large quantity of tourists which have a good time on mounting skiing resorts in the winter or are engaged in snowboarding, in the summer - a golf, fishing, walks by boats. The considerable quantity of night clubs, discos and, certainly, a casino offer visitors of different age of entertainment for all tastes.
Initially, the lake territory has been densely populated with representatives of American Indian tribe Вашо who also lived in the top valleys of the rivers Carson and Walker. Indians have christened this earth as "yes хоу aha", that meant "on the brink of light". The definitive name "Tagus" was generated after occurrence of the first "бледнокожих" wanderers who have deformed a word pronunciation, saying "yes хоу".
The first white people in lake Tagus territory — the Whale Carson and John Fermont, for the first time found out lake on February, 14th, 1884, being at top Рэд Лейк (red lake) in посках the rivers Bnoaventura.
Having arrived to a fort, they have christened this lake "Бонплан", by name French researcher Eme Jacque Alexander Bonplana. The researcher of a ridge Sierra-Nevada, the person by name of John Kalhun Johnson, was the first white person, увидившим gulf Миикс being on a grief over lake and named it Лейк Биглер, in honour of the then governor of California John Biglera.
Officially the name "Tagus" has been entered by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the United States of America in 1862, but because of the arisen disputes on the correct name of lake in a current of 10 years both names were used. The definitive name of Tagus has been appropriated to lake only in the beginning of 1945 and when the State of California was formed, two thirds of coastal line of lake have departed in its property, and the remained third — to staff under the name Nevada.
