The full name of Vientiane - Кандалури Сисаттанак Маханагара (the City сандалового a tree). Such name in itself - sight.
Three main city streets go in parallel Mekong. On coast the street Fangum, in parallel it - street Settathirat on which in an environment of trees there is a main city reference point - fountain Нампху lasts. In one quarter to the northeast it is laid street Samsenthaj from which the wide street Lansang going by market Talatsao (the Morning market) to a triumphal arch of a monument of Victory Патусай begins. From an arch conducts street Thatluang by a number of the western embassies to gold mortar Тхатлуанг.
The trip on a city by a three-wheeled taxi джумбо or on a motor-rickshaw tuk-tuk costs from 2 to 10 thousand bales (2000 bales/km). Taxi parking are near market Talatsao. The trip manages 10-15 thousand bales/ch. (200 thousand bales/days). In hotel or travel agency it is possible to rent a bicycle (1$/day) or a motorcycle (8$/day).
Purchases in a city is better to do in market Talatsao (the Morning market) which works daily, from 6.00 till.
In three buildings and on the trays established around, sell everything, that is made in Laos and neighbouring countries. It is possible to get souvenirs and products of national crafts.
One of the main sights of a city - Ват Онгтэ. Ват have constructed in the beginning of XVI century (rep. in XIX and XX centuries) and named by name a huge bronze sculpture of the Buddha stored here. The magnificent wooden carved facade is worthy. The gilt carving in Laotian temples decorated doors, windows, details of rafters and roofs. Against colours and foliage heroes and plots буддистской mythologies are represented: birds Гаруда and Киннари, the dragon Is nude. In territory of a temple complex there is a large Buddhist university.
Near to cotton wool Онгты there are four more monasteries: ват Инпенг in the west, ват Мисай in the east, ват Найсок in the north and ват Тен in the south.
Necessarily visit the National historical museum which takes places in an old building of the former residence of the French governor (1925) near to hotel dао Рlаzа. In a collection archeological finds, photos, documents, the weapon of fighters with the French colonialism and the American imperialism, samples of Laotian national creativity and craft products are collected.
