Male - capital Maldiv located almost in the archipelago centre, in 10 minutes of driving from the airport.

Male - a unique city and port archipelago, and also one of the smallest capitals of the world (the area about 1,8 sq. km.) and one of the most densely occupied cities of a planet. Officially, the capital population makes nearby 65000 persons, but together with foreign workers, tourists and inhabitants of other islands often coming here, in a city usually is 100000. The size of island has been doubled by means of introduction of projects on earth restoration, and nearby islands are used for the different purposes, and on one of islands the airport is located. It is planned to develop other islands for reduction of pressure upon island Male.

Despite diminutiveness, Male some centuries - from the moment of acceptance by Maldives of Islam in 12 century when Male has received the name <island of sultans> are the political, economic and cultural centre of archipelago.

The best way to examine Male is to go on the pedestrian excursion.

In an hour with small it is possible to examine all sights of Male. To go on excursion is better from area Jumhoree Maidan around port on which the Maldivian flag flutters.
