Лас Касас Реалес - Royal Houses

Magnificence of the architectural ensemble which has taken places opposite, belongs by an epoch when it was called «Royal Houses» and belonged to royal administration.

Here the Royal Audience, the Supreme court with jurisdiction on all New Light has been based, which King Fernando has created in Санто - Domingo on April, 5th 1511. Later in this complex the Palace of Governors has taken places.

The royal Audience strictly limited the power of the Vice-king of Don Dego Columbus. When Spain on conditions of the Baziletssky world in 1795 has conceded France east part Испаньола, the Royal Audience has been moved on November, 12th, 1799 to Cuba.

On a southern facade of the Royal Houses, leaving on street a Mercedes, it is possible to see the unique arms of Queen Juans де Кастилья, known also as Juan Sumasshedshaja, wife Filipa Beautiful. Today, three centuries later, the arms are exposed in the Museum of Royal Houses.

Going down from Street of Ladies, on the right we can see Gate Dignity Дьего constructed in 1540-1555 for pass from port in a city enclosed with a wall. At the left - the Contracting Area. Moving further, to street Isabel ла the Catholic, we find House Гордона erected in the beginning of XVI century. It is the first apartment house constructed in a city of Santo-Domingo. Its first owner, Франсиско де Гарай, has come on island with Christopher Columbus on its first travel. The history specifies that Гарай - the first public notary Ispanoly, acquired a huge condition on the real estate.

When King Fernando has appointed Франсиско Тапиа the Mayor of Santo-Domingo де Gusman, Don Dego Columbus, under the recommendation of the King, has left the Celebration Tower - the time residence, and together with the wife and retinue has located in House Гордона. There in 1510 and 1511 his daughters, Фелипа and Maria were born. Today in this house offices of Dominican Bank Popular which financed its restoration works settle down. The house can be visited free of charge.
